Silk Island Countryside Tour
Escape the city to a rural world of yesterday!
Only a few kilometers away from the big city there exists a rural paradise hidden away on an island in the Mekong River. Departing from the historic train station, we escape the city by road, bridge, and ferry to Silk Island. Our Vespas follow riverside tracks and dirt roads to a remote 500-year old sanctuary temple set in a mystical forest. Our explorations take us to a local family’s sugar palm and goat farm, an island market, and a family run special soup ingredient business.
We stop for riverside refreshments before continuing our adventure on a second island cruising through scenes of rural life that have changed little to this day. We take a small local ferry to a famous temple to learn about local belief systems and the tradition of Buddhist cremation. Our last stop is at a local family’s house where we can experience the art of silk making, we also enjoy a delicious homemade lunch. Our final drive follows a wonderful riverside trail with cattle grazing on one side and fantastic city views on the other. Our last ferry takes us back to Phnom Penh.
