Riding Through Vietnam on Vespa Scooters: A Journey to Remember from Winter Into Spring

With the arrival of June’s rainy season just around the corner and the visitor season slowing down, things have become slightly less frantic at the Vespa Adventures headquarters. That doesn’t mean things have been quiet—we’ve been busy hosting incredible travelers and preparing for upcoming tours. Two weeks ago, we welcomed a lively group on a seven-day journey through Vietnam’s central highlands, cruising through stunning landscapes on their Vespa scooters. The group included three Australian couples and two Americans, all eager for adventure. From the start, we knew they were fearless, exactly the kind of travelers we love to have on our tours.

Finding Local Flavors on the Road

Among them were Mark and Lee-Ann, strict vegetarians who navigated the challenges of finding meat-free meals in Vietnam’s countryside with remarkable patience and good humor. For many Vietnamese, a vegetarian meal still includes a bit of pork, fish, or shrimp, so true vegetarian options can be a challenge outside major cities. They handled the ups and downs of Vietnamese-style vegetarianism with grace, proving that with a little flexibility, travelers can experience the rich flavors of local cuisine. To celebrate, they treated themselves to a big tofu T-bone at a local eatery, a well-earned reward after days of navigating the complexities of local food.

Meanwhile, the Aussies in our group quickly set the bar when it came to enjoying the local rice whiskey, proving their legendary reputation true. Peter and Jamal took the lead, making friends at every stop and embracing every cultural moment with enthusiasm. Their energy was contagious, and soon the whole group was toasting to new friendships under the warm glow of lantern-lit cafes. The nights were filled with laughter, stories, and the occasional karaoke session—because what’s a Vietnam adventure without a bit of off-key singing?

Capturing Every Moment

Rose and Dan, our American travelers, were the tech-savvy duo of the trip, documenting every moment with cameras, GPS tracking, and real-time social media updates. Dan even mounted his iPhone on his chest to capture a rider’s perspective, ensuring every twist and turn of the journey was recorded. They blogged, Tweeted, and shared their experiences as they happened, bringing an entirely new dimension to the tour. We can’t wait to see their final compilation once they edit the footage—they promised to send us a highlight reel of their journey, and we’re sure it’ll be nothing short of spectacular.

Unexpected Discoveries Along the Way

The journey itself was nothing short of breathtaking. Riding vintage Vespa scooters through winding mountain passes, past rice fields dotted with water buffalo, and into hidden villages where time seems to stand still, every moment felt like stepping into a postcard. We made impromptu stops at small roadside stalls, sampling fresh sugarcane juice and sticky rice wrapped in banana leaves. At one point, we even encountered a group of children playing by the river, their laughter echoing through the valley as they waved enthusiastically at our group.

One of the most unforgettable moments came when we stumbled upon a hidden suspension bridge stretching across a misty valley. Though not part of the official tour route, it was impossible to resist exploring. The group parked their Vespas, took a deep breath, and crossed the gently swaying bridge, pausing in the middle to soak in the view of endless greenery stretching as far as the eye could see. It was a reminder of why we do what we do—giving travelers the chance to experience Vietnam beyond the typical tourist trail.

The Perfect End to an Unforgettable Journey with Vespa Scooters

As the journey continued, we found ourselves drawn to the riverbanks, where locals cooled off from the summer heat. Inspired by their carefree spirit, a few of our travelers decided to join in, taking a refreshing dip in the open river. Watching them splash and laugh, surrounded by Vietnam’s raw natural beauty, it was clear this wasn’t just a tour—it was an experience, a connection to a place and its people in a way that no guidebook could ever replicate.

Our final day brought a mix of emotions—excitement for the last leg of the journey, but also the bittersweet realization that it was coming to an end. As we approached Dalat, the cool mountain air a welcome contrast to the tropical heat we had left behind, we reflected on the friendships forged and the stories we would all carry home. The ride down from the highlands was nothing short of exhilarating, with hairpin turns that kept us alert and stunning panoramic views that made every twist in the road worthwhile.

By the time we rolled into our final destination, our group of strangers had become a family. We had shared incredible meals, unforgettable experiences, and the sheer joy of exploring Vietnam on two wheels. It was a reminder that the best adventures aren’t just about the places you visit, but the people you meet along the way.
