Countryside & Islands Explorer – Hoi An, Central Vietnam

Explore the roads less travelled. Setting off from Café Zoom in Hoi An, we take to the river aboard a local bike ferry and head into the morning melee of Cam Kim island’s fishing port, stopping at a traditional boat builders yard before we set off to explore the sleepy island villages. Zig-zag through breathtaking scenery of rice paddies and farmland, taking stops along the way to learn from friendly local families the art of mat weaving, farming and how to make (and eat) the perfect Banh Dap (rice cracker). Riding into a small village we stop at a local café to fuel up on local drip-coffee, gearing up for an adrenalin pumping 300 metre bamboo bridge river crossing to the opposing landscape of the sea-board side of the island making our way to Duy Hai market and harbour. Finally, the local ferry crossing takes us to the water coconut palm fringed Cam Thanh and then on to a sensational seafood lunch on Hoi An's most glorious and lesser known beach.

Rural Villages Experience – Hoi An, Central Vietnam

Experience local life in the slow lane. Setting off from Café Zoom in Hoi An, we head out West along the banks of the Thu Bon River, first stopping at a bustling local fish market before heading into the rice paddy rich countryside and local villages, stopping where a local family make rice crackers. Crossing a bridge over the Thu Bon River takes us through more quiet villages where we learn how to make the local fresh rice noodle and then into beautiful farmlands. We take a break for some local lunch while surrounded seasonal vegetables in the picturesque fields of corn, aubergine, sweet potato, cucumbers and herbs. As the sun starts to go down, we set off through the rice paddies, passing duck farms, visit a local mat weaving family and then ride along by the prawn farms and over the river to sample the local coffee in a riverside café. Then it’s a short ride to Cam Kim Harbour and on board the local ferry into Hoi An as the sun begins to set on this beautiful heritage town.

Starting out at our central Hoi An café, sample the delicious local street food delight that is Banh Can while watching the streets & stalls come to life and sipping a cocktail. After the first taster, head out on the Vespas to try the famous ‘White Rose’ and  fried wontons in town. We then head to lantern lit An Hoi Islet and jump in a local boat for a slow ride along side the ancient town to to Cam Nam Island where we join the locals for a seafood starter overlooking the Thu Bon River as the sun sets on Hoi An & enjoy a few cold beers.  A leisurely drive along the banks of the river and through the alleyways & streets takes us to a lively local restaurant where we cook a hotpot at the table and learn the art of wrap ‘n’ roll – Vietnamese style!
